NBA Preview: Celtics up against Knicks as Lakers take on the Wolves

The NBA is officially back tonight, with the defending champions Boston Celtics getting the season underway with a clash against the New York Knicks at TD Garden.

The Knicks also got Mikal Bridges from the Brooklyn Nets. These additions with their already formidable trio of Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart and  OG Anunoby make the Knicks starting five as good as any team in the league. 

As for the Celtics, though, they did not make any major additions to the squad because there is no reason for them to. 

The Celtics still have arguably the best squad in the league. Even without Kristaps Porzingis, who will miss the beginning of the new season, the Celtics’ depth is unmatched. 

They have two of the best players in the league in Jason Tatum and Jaylen Brown, while Derrick White and Jrue Holiday can lock down any opposition’s offence on any given night. 

Nonetheless, this clash between the two Eastern rivals is the best start NBA fans could have hoped for. 

The Celtics are favourites, going into the clash. Joe Mazzula’s men are priced at 1.43 at Housebets to start their defence with a win, while the Knicks are priced at 2.90 to cause an upset. 

LA Lakers vs Minnesota Timberwolves 

Shortly after the Celtics game, the Los Angeles Lakers will take on the Minnesota Timberwolves at the Crypto.com arena. 

This will be J.J Reddick’s first game as Lakers head coach but all the focus will be on Lebron James as he could be the first player to play with his son. 

The Lakers drafted Lebron’s son, Bronny Jr, in the 2024 draft. Although it is very unlikely that Bronny will start the game, he could come in at some point in the game. 

 The Lakers have not made any major additions but their new rookie Dalton Knecht could be one to watch. 

As for the Timberwolves, they will hope to build on their Western Conference finals finish last season, losing to the Mavs. 

However, they will have to do it without Towns, who is now with the Knicks. But the good news for the Wolves is that they got DiVincenzo, who is lethal from the three-point range, and Julius Randle. 

In fairness, it is hard to judge the two teams right now, but considering the Wolves have their star man, Anthony Edwards, they have the upper hand. 

The Wolves are the slight favourites with an odd of 1.87 to win the game against the Lakers’ 1.97 at Housebets.
